Kung Fu Do Fighting 3.5.7

Fight Like It's 1993

Remember Street Fighter? I never enjoyed playing it, to be honest. Too much button mashing made my fingers go numb and unresponsive. It could have been an iron deficiency, but this phenomenon paved the way to a personal aversion towards the genre.

Be that as it may, I can still differentiate between a good fighting game and a bad one. Kung Fu Do Fighting has made many a user dazed and confused. For example, check out this comment on the Play Store:

The guy has apparently lost all bearings when it comes to the star rating in relation to his impression solely because of having played Kung Fu Do Fighting. I was also initially confused regarding this game. I never knew that you could make a fighting style sound cooler by sticking "Do" at the end. I had almost written a lengthy rant on this when I realized that, actually, there is something called Kung Fu Do in India. Well, you could probably find anything out there, if you looked deep enough.

Kung Fu Do Fighting is blatantly copying the graphical style of the beloved Street Fighter series, except that character animations are choppier, and that background animations are entirely nonexistent. Aside for that, you only get a handful of characters, and two of them are visually identical except for some cosmetic differences.

But leaving graphics aside, the gameplay is a mess. You only have one attack button and a 4-spoke directional pad. Swiping up on the pad will result in a jump, but swiping it down does absolutely nothing. That's right. There's no crouching in Kung Fu Do Fighting. Maybe some Indian Kung Fu Do Master can correct me on this, but I thought any form of physical combat featured some sort of dodge move.

Anyway, the special combos are also very simplistic. Each character has a special attack that can be performed when his/her power bar has filled up. The attack deals a massive amount of damage, so it's usually a K.O. move. Too bad the game doesn't have multiplayer, so we could see how this kind of setup would work with two intelligent players duking it out. The other power move can be triggered with three swipes of the directional pad. You won't get it all the time, since binding a combo on the D-pad is a stupid idea, generally speaking.

Final Thoughts

Get it, play it, dump it. It's completely free, and if you turn off the data connection on your device, you can also enjoy playing it without the squished screen and annoying ad interludes.
